Welcome

It’s time for the next Challenge over at Watercooler Wednesday and I’m thrilled to say that I have the honour of hosting this week’s Feminine ‘Anything Goes’ Challenge!

Image may contain: one or more people and textI decided to try something different this week. I’m not sure if I love it or not!

My idea was to have some gold embossed flowers and use some very wet, loose watercolouring.  A big change from my usual style of watercolouring!

As I looked through my stamps, I decided that Altnew’s – Hibiscus Bouquet set was perfect as the images have a lovely fluid outline.  They were gold heat embossed onto some Tim Holtz Distress Watercolour card.  Kuretake Gansai Tambi ‘deep pink’ water colour gave me the rich colour I wanted for my flowers with ‘evergreen’ for the leaves.

To pull it all together, I added a light wash of blue as well as a little of the pink and green around the images, which faded out towards the middle.

The sentiment is from Altnew’s ‘Label Love’ stamped in Memento ‘Gray Flannel’. I added a little gold embossing to the opposite edges to give it a less formal look.

I know that the very talented Design Team have lots of wonderful and inspiring creations for you to check out on our blog.

I hope you can join us this week!

I live in sunny Queensland, Australia with my husband and daughter. Since I was a child, I have always loved to create and have enjoyed all kinds of crafts, sewing and painting. China painting helped develop my understanding of colour and design. Over the last few years card making has taken up a major part of my crafting time as I love to play with new techniques and mediums. Since beginning my blog, entering various challenges has encouraged me to grow my skills and creativity.

  1. Although you’ve used a Hibiscus stamp for your flowers Helen, the hew and delicate floral images remind me so much of the wild roses in Alberta when I was a kid. The gold embossing really brings out their glory. Stunning card and very inspiring. Thanks for hosting our challenge this week and leading off with such a wonderful card.

    1. Penny, you always send me such wonderful feed back no my cards! I really do appreciate it. I used to paint wild roses from pictures when I was china painting as they were so beautiful and soft, so I know what you mean. I imagine they were amazing I would love to see them growing wild! I don’t see too many here though! Thanks again!x

  3. Helen, your card is amazing. It’s a work of art. Love what you call the “very wet, loose” watercolouring. The way the colours shift and subtly change throughout the images, contained in the gold heat embossing, makes me think of an exquisite piece of hand-painted silk. Simply stunning!
