Merry Merry Christmas (HLS – Watercolour)

P1080432 (2)

Hello and welcome

I’m back with a card for HLS Watercolour Challenge for December 2019 with the optional twist of CHRISTMAS!  However, anything  watercolour is just fine.

My Christmas card is very simple, but I just love the effects.

To begin the top quarter of my card front was masked off using post-it notes.

Then using one of my original old wood block stamps, I started colouring the holly image with Distress Markers before giving it a light mist with water mixed with Perfect Pearls (for a little shine), and stamping it on the card.

This was continued until the panel was covered.

When it was dry, the masking tape was carefully removed.

The sentiment from the SSS Christmas stamp set was used as a border to finish the panel.  I worked from the apex of the triangle to ensure the words fitted evenly. They were stamped using Brilliance Lightning Black Ink, which again gave a little sparkle. I felt the small heart from the same set just finished it off.

WWC249 – Karen’s “All About Occasions” Challenge

Hello and welcome

Today it’s time for the next challenge over at Watercooler Wednesday!  This week Karen is our host for our “All About Occasions” Challenge.

I started by stamping an old favourite – Papertrey Ink Year of Flowers Poinsettias, colouring and fussy cutting the flower.

After die cutting  a scalloped circle in green, it was stamped using Versa Mark ink and an old wood block holly stamp.

To make a circle card, a second white scalloped circle was cut for the card back. This was attached to the green circle with tape along a folded section at the top of the back.

A piece of tartan ribbon was attached to the side of a white circle, before attaching it to the green circle. Verve Stamps – Glad Tidings sentiment was stamped on the front and the flower was attached with raised tape.

A sentiment from a Kaisercraft Christmas set was silver heat embossed, fussy cut and tied to the tartan ribbon.

To finish, some Nuvo drops were added to the flower centre.

Although it is not a traditionally shaped card, the colours and elements are definitely a more traditional style.

Image may contain: textThis week, I had some fun playing with Stampabilities (House Mouse) wood block stamp – Taking Notes.

Once I got started, it was a fun quick card to make.

To start the image was stamped on a scrap of card and the mouse and pencils were copic coloured before  fussy cutting them.

A sheet of lined paper was torn from a small spiral notebook and torn to fit the card front and attached.

The mouse was then placed onto the notepaper. Using a red coloured pencil, I wrote the words ‘for you’ on the paper.

To finish, I thought it would be fun to cut a small piece from the bottom of the card front to look as though the mouse had made the hole.

Inside I stamped the sentiment from an old “There She Goes” stamp set and glued the broken pencil at the bottom.

Tonight’s card features Penny Black – Gift Tower wood stamp which I copic coloured before being cut with a circle die. This was then added to a white Memory Box Quinn Flourish Die cut.

I cut the larger MFT Die-namics Fishtail Banner Die from white and added Nuvo Clear Glitter Paste over Memory Box Texture Scraped Stencil.

A second smaller banner was cut from red cardstock and white heat embossed using MFT Pinstripe BG Stamp.

The white heat embossed sentiment is from an old cheap set, which was fussy cut.

It was then a simple matter of layering all the elements. along with a length of red ribbon as a hanger.

I love the crisp look of the red and white!

I would like to thank the wonderful team over at Cut It Up Challenge for selecting my card as one of the Top Three.

Hello and welcome

Welcome back to a new challenge over at Happy Little Stampers –  Anything Goes with Dies – November.  I hope you’ll join in the fun this month!

My card this month features the beautiful Poppystamps Autumn Leaves Sidekick Frame and Stencil set, which I was lucky enough to win!  Thanks!

As it only arrived today, I thought it would be fun to play.

To begin, I smooched some card with Distress Inks (Festive Berries, Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade) sprayed with some shimmer water. (Made by adding some Perfect Pearls in the water spray bottle). The smooching was done in layers,  drying each before adding more colour, until I was happy with the result.

It was then time to cut the die 3 times – 2 in white and 1 from the coloured piece.

Now it was time to inlay the die cuts. After gluing the main coloured piece onto the card front, the white cut out pieces were glued in place.

From the larger white window piece the ‘Thanks’ die from Winnie & Walter  – The Big, The Bold and You Cutaways was cut, along with one from black card.

These were then inlaid onto the card front.

To finish, I flicked some of the colours across the card front.

From the last white die cut, I removed a large full maple leaf and after smooching it in the inks, I added to the front with raised tape.

Time to head over to our blog to check out the great work by the rest of the Design Team!  Good luck with your entries!

Cheers

Helen

This week I decided to make a CAS card, not always my strong point!

I started by masking a frame around my watercolour panel and  stamping a section of  Mama Elephant – Wild Meadow stamp so it fills one corner.  It was heat embossed using Lindy’s Stamp Gang – Adobe Fire Two-toned Embossing Powder, a new one I picked up!

I then did the same in the opposite corner with only a very small section of the stamp.

It was then time to carefully remove the tape. Using a WOW embossing pen I added a line along the edge of the stamped section and heat embossed it using Lawn Fawn – Rose Gold Embossing Powder.  It was interesting to see that there wasn’t a great difference between the 2 colours.

I used the LF powder to heat emboss the sentiment from Hero Arts – Thanks Stamp & Cut.  The small second sentiment was stamped along the bottom so it appeared to carry on the line.

Distress Inks were used to watercolour the leaves.

Hello and welcome

I’m back with a card for HLS Watercolour Challenge for November 2019 with an optional twist of ANIMALS!  However, anything  watercolour is just fine.

My card this month started with me having lots of fun playing with Brusho powders and  Cosmic Shimmer Pixie Powders.

I love that you never know exactly how it will turn out and that you can continue to add more colour until you are happy.

Once it was dry, I cut the oval ‘forest’ die from Hero Arts – Monthly Hero Set -May 2018     twice from black card.

I also cut the plain oval die from a black card front in black.

It was then only a matter of cutting the forest images apart to make 2 sides of the scene. On the left there are 2 layers offset, overlapping  partsand then adding some of the cut parts along  the bottom.

I removed the swing and instead stamped the girl on the swing, the dog, squirrel, birds and some leaves using the matching stamp set.

I felt the scene looked like an abstract sort of forest background with lots of variations of green along with some reds, browns and yellows.

To keep it simple, I white heat embossed the sentiment from Kaisercraft  – Life Sentiments. I love that it can be used for a birthday card for any age.

I love working with black paper and card as it is the perfect foil for so many projects. It helps colours to ‘pop’, draws the eye to the image or sentiment it frames and of course it is just perfect to ensure sentiments stand out.

Please head over to our blog and check out the wonderfully inspirational work by the rest of the Design Team!  I hope you will find the time to join our challenge this month.

I look forward to seeing what you create this week!  Good luck!
